    Erik Frances


    Erik Francis is an author, educator, and speaker who specializes in teaching and learning that promotes cognitive rigor and college and career readiness. He is the author of Now That's a Good Question! How to Promote Cognitive Rigor Through Classroom Questioning (ASCD, 2016).

    How did Erik go from an unidentified gifted child, one who “pressed his face up against the window from outside the gifted classroom”, to successful author and international presenter?  How can formulating the right questions lead YOU to success?   • FlexFriday: Terence Parr

    Terence Parr

    Terence is a professor of computer science and data science at the University of San Francisco where he continues to work on his ANTLR parser generator. Until January 2014, Terence was the graduate program director for computer science and was founding director of analytics (now data science). Before entering academia in 2003, he worked in industry and co-founded jGuru.com. Terence herded programmers and implemented the large jGuru developers website, during which time he developed and refined the StringTemplate engine. Terence has consulted for and held various technical positions at companies such as Google, Salesforce, Sun Microsystems, IBM, Lockheed Missiles and Space, NeXT, and Renault Automation. Terence holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Purdue University.

    FlexFriday: Colin Seale

    Thinking Like A Lawyer: Join Colin Seale for an interactive critical thinking workshop based on real-life legal cases. Participants will analyze interesting real-life cases and walk away with an increased understanding of how to (1) analyze problems from multiple perspectives (2) make a variety of claims and support those claims with valid and relevant evidence (3) communicate with impact; recognizing how to listen to understand, speak to be understood, and disagree without being disagreeable.
