"Catch of the Day" Seining Program

On Friday morning, Bronxville students are heading to the Hudson River to learn from expert scientists at the Urban River center in Yonkers. Staff and students will drag a 30-foot seine net into the river to catch various species of fish, crab, shrimp, jellyfish and more! Students will help record data which provides critical insight into the health and well-being of the Hudson. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the marsh. Chest waders will be provided to keep us dry - but we strongly recommend that students come to school with long pants and socks on. Lunch will be eaten on site, so please remember to pack a bagged lunch!
  • Museum of Flight - Virtual Full Fuselage Tour

In the 30 year history of the Space Shuttle Program, every astronaut prepared and trained on the Full Fuselage Trainer (FFT). The FFT was built in the 1970s and is a full scale mockup of the space shuttle orbiter, minus the wings. This week, educators from the Museum of Flight will show students on the Cloud campus what it was like for Space Shuttle astronauts to go to and live in space. They’ll also get a virtual tour of the crew's living and working areas. It's out of this world!

Artist Savannah Green will be joining the Bronxville campus on September 23rd. She will lead the students in a collaging project entitled, “My Personal Planet.” Using different materials, students will brainstorm how they imagine their ideal planet. This hands-on activity will allow students to get creative and learn about the forgiving art of collaging. Students are encouraged to bring photos, magazines, or paper materials from home that they would like to incorporate. Glue can get messy - so please dress accordingly!
  • The Green Cause - A Lesson on Food Waste & Composting

Students from The Green Cause will be joining Berkeley Heights students on September 23rd. Organizers from The Green Cause will teach students about food waste and composting initiatives. Together, students will brainstorm how to introduce more sustainable practices to the Berkeley Heights campus. There is also an opportunity for students to form their own chapter!

Students will learn how research is collected without disturbing animals or their habitats. In particular, students will observe Alaskan sea lions, learn about their behavior, and discuss some prevalent theories for the drastic decline of this population.

On September 30th, Bronxville students and staff will be boarding the Science Barge - a floating urban farm docked in Yonkers, NY. The Science Barge utilizes solar power, wind power, and rainwater to sustain many different hydroponic systems all while recycling and composting all of their waste. Students will learn about off the grid agriculture and get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run this oasis of sustainability.
  • The Center for Puppetry Arts x Cloud Campus

On September 30th, the Cloud Campus will be joined by The Center for Puppetry Arts. The Center for Puppetry Arts dates back to 1978- when creator Jim Henson first introduced Kermit the Frog. On Friday, students will have the chance to build a working, jointed Bunraku (Japanese rod) style puppet. Based on the human figure and human proportions, puppets can be transformed into just about any character. Students are encouraged to bring recycled newspaper, masking tape, scissors and craft sticks (clothespins or popsicle sticks.)
  • A Visit from Dan Javan

On September 30th, Berkeley Heights parent, Dan Javan, inspired students by explaining net-zero construction and giving them time to create their own environmentally sustainable habitats.
