    Comedy Comes to FlexSchool

    On Friday, December 2nd, comedian Erin Maguire will be joining the Berkeley Heights campus. Erin's comedy advice podcast, Dear Pod, charted in Apple’s top 100 comedy pods in America within two months of its debut. She recently headlined Caroline’s Comedy Club, appeared on Gotham Comedy NextVR live for Oculus, and wrote for Comedy Central’s Roast of Alec Baldwin. During her visit to FlexSchool, she will talk about her process as a writer and as a successful comedian. She'll also share tips on performing and public speaking. Students will learn about the art of standup, and making people laugh.
  • Journey to India!

    On Friday, December 2nd, Yashwardhini Chauhan will be joining the Cloud Campus all the way from India! Her talk will be all about the state of Kerala (South India) which she has frequently visited. Kerala is famous for ecotourism, its varied demography, and its unique traditions. The discussion will integrate Indian history, culture, and religion. This is a chance for students to journey to India and discover what life is like in this tropical region.
  • GPP Gallery Walk & Food Fair

    On Friday, December 2nd, students on the Bronxville campus will be showcasing the progress they’ve made on their Guided Passion Projects with a Gallery Walk. Throughout the 1st Trimester, students have been dedicating time to researching and exploring topics of their own interest. This will be a chance for students to learn about their peers’ projects, and to share their hard work; regardless of where they are in the research process. 
    Students on the Bronxville campus have also earned a Flex Food Fair! Students have been working as a group to earn a total of 200,000 points on ClassCraft. Points were allocated by teachers and staff and earned on the basis of success in the following categories: Respect, Best Effort, Preparedness, Focus, and contributing to a Positive Environment. As a reward, students will be able to enjoy food from around the world. Way to go Bronxville!

    "The World's Oceans" with Roger Timpson

    On Friday, December 9th, Roger Timpson will be joining the Berkeley Heights campus to share his enduring love of oceans. Roger Timpson has an extraordinary background. Among many things, he was a featured speaker for World Oceans Day at the New York Athletic Club, a U. S. Navy SEAL, and a First Class Diver. He has been to every place you could call a place and has a collection of stories and pictures to share with students. In this presentation, he will raise awareness about the impact we have on the oceans and why we should mobilize to protect them for future generations. Students can discuss ocean ecosystems and biomes, underwater creatures, and the effects of climate change.
  • Know Your Rights

    On Friday, December 9th, the Bronxville campus will be joined by the regional director of the American Civil Liberties Union. Students will learn about the mission of the ACLU and participate in a Know Your Rights workshop. As a group, we will learn about what rights are guaranteed to us under the U.S. Constitution, how we can exercise those rights, and what to do if those rights are violated.
  • Cartooning Fundamentals with Miguel Cossio

    On Friday, December 9th, the Cloud Campus will be joined by ArtsWestchester Artist Resident Miguel Cossio. Miguel Cossio is a visual artist from Mexico. His own arts tend to focus on the Latinx experience and incorporates ritual art from around the globe. He will work with Cloud students to teach them the fundamentals of cartooning and graffiti calligraphy. Students should come prepared with art supplies!
    For this lesson, students are advised to bring the following: 
    Copy white paper, pencils, eraser, colored pencils and/or markers.

    Meet the Press! A visit from the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum

    Friday, December 16th, Berkeley Heights students will be visited by educators from the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum. Students will learn about the role of illustrated newspapers and political cartoons in the 1850s. They will work in teams to design a front page for an 1862 newspaper selecting images and creating headlines to capture the interest of their audience. Using primary sources, they will learn about the life and legacy of Thomas Nast, an artist and political cartoonist who lived in Morristown, NJ at the end of the 19th century. 
  • Game Design 101 - Teamwork & Empathy

    On Friday, December 16th, the Cloud Campus will be joined by Add-A-Tudez Entertainment Company, a PlayStation and Xbox certified
    game development team based out of Montana. Students will have an introductory lesson on game design and can share their thoughts on existing games with the experts. They will also learn about the importance of empathy and teamwork in the video game industry as well as entrepreneurship, personal branding, and the art of trusting your gut.
  • Songwriters in the Classroom

    On Friday, December 16th, Bronxville students will be joined by musician and singer-songwriter Evan Seligman. Students will enjoy a School of Rock-esque workshop where they’ll hone their songwriting skills and work together on a collaborative song. Students will take inspiration from a variety of subjects; their dreams, their interests, and like any Rockstar - minor inconveniences. Come prepared to sing and share!
