    Savanna's Parent Support Group meets on the first Tuesday of each month in her RingCentral Room. This group is a place for parents to share their children's stories and get peer support from other parents of a 2e child. The group is optional, but sign up ahead of time is preferred so that Savanna can plan appropriately. Please email Savanna if you will be attending.

    FlexFriday: Maple Sugaring

    Maple Sugaring at Greenburgh Nature Center

    Travel back in time to learn about maple sugaring throughout history. You’ll learn how Native Americans discovered maple sugar and our modern day techniques to collect and create syrup at our outdoor sugaring sites. This program will also include a small seasonal treat the day of your program.
  • FlexFriday: Scenic Winter Hike at Hacklebarney State Park

    Please bring your boots, your sense of adventure and your sense of humor – conditions vary at this time of year! In the event the trails are too muddy or snowy to be passable, we will have outdoor activities for an impromptu parking lot party. In the 19th century, this park was a mined iron ore site. Now a favorite spot for anglers, hikers and picnickers, Hacklebarney State Park in Long Valley, NJ is home to over a hundred bird species and wildlife such as woodchuck, deer and fox.     Drama! Intrigue! Scandal! The Presidential election of 1824 was the most hotly-contested election in early American history. The Corrupt Bargain takes an interactive look at the election that questioned whether our country is a democracy or a republic. Students will be able to see a revolutionary nation come into its own.

    FlexFriday: Discovering Puppetry in Other Cultures

    Virtual event: Discovering Puppetry in Other Cultures
    In this exciting program from the Center for Puppetry Arts, students will be introduced to other countries and cultures through puppetry. Learn about puppetry traditions of China, Japan and/or Mali with the aid of puppets such as a Malian Water Spirit Rod Puppet, a Japanese Bunraku Rod Puppet, or Chinese Hand and Shadow Puppets, and view excerpts by master puppeteers from these countries. Then see a live puppet-making demonstration! (Feeling crafty? A supply list and templates will be made available after the session for any students who wish to try making a puppet at home!)

    Stoke up the fire, it’s sugaring time at Teatown. From tapping to collecting, boiling to bottling, Teatown’s naturalists will be in Warren’s Sugar House sharing facts and folklore about this sweet time of year.

    Thomas Edison National Historical Park
    Travel back in time and discover the place where America’s greatest inventor changed our world forever! To the unsuspecting passerby, the buildings on this tour betray little evidence of the industries they once started. Thomas Edison’s home and laboratory are a step back in time, when machines were run by belts and pulleys and music was played on phonographs. If you’ve got a cell phone, bring it along, so you can take advantage of the new audio tour of the courtyard and the life and accomplishments of Thomas Edison.

    FlexFriday: Blankets of Hope

    Blankets of Hope Kindness and Creativity Workshop 
    Have you ever wished you could start a charity? Learn from the experts how it’s done! FlexSchool is proud to partner with Blankets of Hope, an educational 501(c)3 nonprofit offering support and hope to individuals who are experiencing homelessness. This special event will begin with a creative empathy-building activity, followed by a live virtual Q&A session with the founders of Blankets of Hope. All students should have writing materials for this activity. Students are invited to use other optional creative supplies (art, photography, Lego, etc.) during the session as well.

    The Frelinghuysen Arboretum
    Students from all campuses are invited to this New Jersey location to enjoy the outdoors on a guided tour of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Once a summer estate dating back to 1891, the arboretum is now a regional center for horticultural activities, including educational programs and garden and flower shows. The Frelinghuysen Arboretum offers gardens, open fields, woodland and groves of flowering trees that bring serenity to our harried lives.
