Rainy Day Fun on FlexFriday

Kristin Taveira
When our FlexFriday hike was rained out, we let FlexSchool students take their pick of two exciting virtual events: The Maker Faire or The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.

A lively performance by Mario the Maker Magician kicked off our virtual Maker Faire experience. Mario demonstrated all sorts of tricks that show how magical science can be. After Mario’s show came Rosie’s Robots and Creations. Rosie demonstrated her wide array of maker projects -- from robotics to breadmaking to crochet -- and gave a great talk about what it’s like to use YouTube to teach herself new skills, and to try, fail and try again till something works! At the end of the session, FlexSchool kids took a few minutes to share some creations and collections of their own.

Meanwhile, behind door number two, history was brought to life at The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Students were invited to explore different spaces in the ship, see the aircraft and learn about the people who flew and worked on them -- and hear stories from crew members who served on Intrepid during World War II!
