On October 24, 2025, students and staff from FlexSchool Bronxville will be trekking to City Island, one of the most unexpected yet iconic neighborhoods in New York City. Jutting out from Pelham Bay Park off the coast of Orchard Beach, we will experience what some describe as a “New England fishing village” at the northern tip of the Bronx, just down the road from the Bartow-Pell Mansion, which we visited last year.
Itinerary:
Nautical Museum
First, we will stop at the Nautical Museum to learn about the island’s maritime history from shellfish to ships.
City Island Avenue
From there, we’ll stroll down “the Avenue” to the famous Johnny’s Reef for lunch. We’ll do some window shopping and check out the storefronts decorated for Halloween. Maybe we’ll even have time to look around Dan’s Parents’ Toy Store, a thrift shop, or an antique store.

Flash Sketch Mob
Finally, we will walk next door to Belden Point to enjoy the view and participate in a “flash sketch mob.”
