Bronxville Explores Alchemy
Bronxville students were riveted on Friday as medieval studies fellow Dr. Christine Axen, Ph.D. led them on a fascinating tour through time to explore the history of alchemy.
Students were surprised by the layers of connectedness they discovered between these ancient practices and modern ones. The same kinds of imagery and themes recur again and again, from ancient Egyptian writings to medieval hunts for the Philosopher’s Stone to modern-day art and even science. In fact, we learned that there’s an ongoing project at Columbia University where researchers continue to try to piece together and recreate arcane alchemical experiments today!
