In the second of our special three-part FlexFriday series on media literacy, visiting speaker Ashley Yates gave students an eye-opening tour of the many ways misinformation – and disinformation – can sneak into our lives.
Ashley has worked with colleagues – including FEMA and Cindy Otis, author of True or False: A CIA Analyst's Guide to Spotting Fake News – to develop a training program for state and local governments to help them understand the concepts of "fake news" in all of its forms, how to spot it, and how to counter it.
Students learned all the telltale signs that can help spot a fake. Then they tested their media literacy skills with an online quiz game -- and scored very high marks! Great job, FlexSchool students!
